How to Improve Water Pressure in Your Home

One of the things that many people complain about at one time or another is how to improve water pressure in your home. Check Your Stopcock

Low water flow rates can be caused by something as simple the internal stopcock not being fully opened. Check by turning the stopcock clockwise (to the right). If this does not solve the issue contact your water company.

Check with Your Water Company

Water companies are bound by law to maintain a certain standard of water pressure, according to the guaranteed standards scheme. If you have a new central heating system and shower facilities then if your water pressure falls, some of these systems may not work. It is worth getting your water pressure checked before installing any new or replacement items that require mains water supplied in particluar combi boilers, electric showers,  to ensure that it is at the right pressure levels for your equipment.

An unexplained water pressure loss may be affected several factors ranging from other consumers in your area use a greater than normal use of water particularly if near an industrial or commercial units.  a drop in pressure can also highlight a burst pipe below ground on the mains water supply to your area or within your property line or shared line.

If the problem continues, then you may need to call your water board who will inform you of any issues they are aware of or will refer the issue for investigation. If it is traced to the mains feed pipes within your property line are the cause due to a bust pipe or collapsed pipe which will need replacing, then this could prove to be very expensive fix.
