MOT Your Heating System – You could save up to 30% on heating bills
Most householders will quite happily trundle along with their heating systems as long as it still works – its only when it stops they suddenly realise they’re colder while the bills get bigger they do something about this. One thing’s for sure – energy costs will only go up.
What can you do? Probably more than you think.
For Starters – Have your heating system serviced annually.
A poorly maintained boiler can be unsafe and will most definitely cost you far more in additional fuel consumption than the price of the service and reduce the chances of having to call out an emergency engineer which is just another additional cost of supplying your heat.
Power Flushing your system can save you pounds – and extend the life of your boiler and radiators.
If you’re noticing the radiators aren’t as hot, or are uneven in temperature (feel centre bottom of the radiator panel) you most probably need your system Power Flushed. With sludge (rust) out of the system and will immediately increase the efficiency and put less strain on the system.
Fitting a magnetic filter will help to keep it clear of debris on an ongoing basis.
Upgrade Your Boiler.
If the boiler is ageing you’re never going to achieve the high efficiency ratings, and cost savings, that a new high efficiency boiler will give you.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, if everyone in the UK with gas or oil central heating installed a high-efficiency condensing boiler with full sets of heating controls, we would save enough energy to heat nearly 1.9 million homes for a whole year, and save around 6.7 million tonnes of CO2.
Add in Thermostatic Controls and Valves.
This allows you to maintain optimum temperatures and are energy saving by ensuring the boiler is only working as much as it has to and thereby reducing costs further.
You will undoubtedly save money if:
– You haven’t flushed your system in the last 5 years.
– You haven’t got thermostatic valves and a programmable controller.
– Your boiler is over 10 years old.
– Your boiler has not been regularly serviced.
